The PMSC Rivers Rally 2010

The objective is to offer another slant to your recreational sailing - after all we do have on the East coast some of the best and certainly most interesting coastline in the UK. The rally will require you to explore backwaters and channels that you may otherwise avoid, to visit places of interest, landmarks or seamarks. To prove you have visited the landmark / seamark you will be required to take a photograph of it with part of your boat and your ‘personal identification’ card as part of the scene. [A tender may be required at times!] For your pictures to qualify for marking, the landmark must be clearly visible and identifiable. A lighthouse 5 miles away will not do I'm afraid.

There are a number of landmarks in every estuary from the River Waveney in the north, (Lowestoft) down to the River Thames in the south.  In between these points there is scope for many more. Every landmark / seamark is allocated points that you can earn towards your winning entry. The number of points is dependent on the landmarks / seamark location and difficulty of access.

The list of landmarks / seamarks and points record is available from here as a PDF or from here as a spreadsheet, and to enter all you have to do is get yourself a list of targets and send your address and boat name to Val Stone (sailing_secretary@pmsc.org.uk) to receive your ‘personal identification’ card by mail. (remember this must appear in all your photos for them to count!)  Your photos and total points must be sent to the Sailing Sec by October 30th for checking, and the boat with the most points will be awarded the Sprits’l Cup and a PMSC engraved glass.

You may start at any landmark / seamark and tick off as many or as few as you wish, and any number of vessels may be used during the rally, provided they are registered on the entry form and comply with all sailing regs and safety requirements set by the PMSC sailing committee.

Awards will be categorized in six bands -
