The
Passage Match was initiated in 1979 by the Blue Circle Cement
Co. and started out as the Blue Circle Challenge Match - a
Passage Match for Sailing Barges to be run on a course from
Gravesend to Pin Mill, sailed as one Class.
The
Passage Match usually starts early in the morning at the Gravesend
Sailing Club, which in 2009 will be 11th July, the
Saturday before the Pin Mill Barge Match. The course
is in the region of 55NM...
...and
ends in Harwich Harbour, the timing of which is entirely dependant
on the strength and direction of the wind.
In 2008 the Passage Match
was won by EDME in a time of 10' 30", arriving just after
18:30
